Finiels, a hamlet in the region of Mont-Lozère is situated below the summit of the above named mountain, on a south facing slope at 1200 m altitude and at 5 km from the market town of Pont de Montvert, the county town of the municipality.

Its mountainous setting near the Cevennes National Park makes it an outstanding site. It is a departure point for leisurely strolls, longer hikes and for a section of the Stevenson trail.

Eight families live in the village making their living out of agriculture and tourism. The campsite, B & B's and gîtes provide welcoming accommodation.

 

Ballade à mon pays

Un jour mettant vos pas dans ceux de Stevenson
Vous arrivez fourbus au col du Mont Lozère
Vous avez devant vous de bien vastes horizons.

Trois cent mètres plus bas coule une rivière
Elle porte déjà le nom de Rieumalet
Et l'une de ses sources démarre sous vos pieds.

Et là, devant vos yeux s'ouvre une vallée
Semblant un paquebot dans le granit taillé
Nous descendons un peu, Finiels…

En face de nous c'est le Ron de Montal
Coiffé en temps ancien d'un château féodal…

Mais nous voilà bientôt au village aux trois ponts
Dont deux furent emportés lors des innondations
Sa place du marché où en mille sept cent deux
Mourut Esprit Séguier martyre courageux…

Vous avez avec moi visité mon pays
Revenez y souvent si le cœur vous en dit.
